Debunked: The bible was written by manipulative patriarchal men
The Bible was written by men. These men who wrote the Bible didn’t sit down together and conjure it all up in a few evenings. The Bible is a collection 66 books. It was written by approximately 40 authors over the course of 1500 years. The writings were completed across 3 different continents and in 3 different languages. Many of these authors never met each other, and yet, they contribute to one overall story about God’s plan for redemption. They record supernatural events that took place, and claim that their words are not their own, but God’s. In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul states, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” In 2 Peter 2:20 – 21, we are told that, “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Sure, men did write the Bible, but God is the original author. Using their own individual personalities, they composed and recorded without error, the words of the original autographs, His revelation to man (Dr. Charles Ryrie).
The fulfilment of Old Testament prophecies reminds us that the Bible is inspired. A study conducted by Peter Stoner found that the probability of a person fulling 8 prophecies in the Bible is 1 in 100 quadrillion. This calculation was based on prophecies such as being born in Bethlehem and being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. A 1 in 100 quadrillion chance to fulfil 8 prophecies, when Jesus fulfilled more than 300. Psalm 22 illustrates in amazing detail the crucifixion of Jesus. What’s mind blowing about this is that when Psalm 22 was written, roughly 1000 years before the birth of Christ and the author had never seen aa cross in his life because it hadn’t been invented yet. Once again, showing the amazing inspiration of the Bible
Furthermore, the men who wrote the Bible were from various backgrounds. The writers included an Egyptian-trained scholar (Moses), a general (Joshua), Kings (David, Solomon), a farmer (Amos), a fisherman (Peter), a tax-collector (Matthew), and a rabbi (Paul), but amazingly they present a consistent viewpoint on the most important questions in life: who we are, why we’re here, what’s wrong with us; and how what is wrong can be made right.
For all of the science people out there who want observable, repeatable and reliable evidence – the Bible attests to radically changing the lives of anyone who believes and trusts in the Word of God. We can observe how men and women from various cultures and backgrounds have repeatedly been changed from the inside out and consistently point to the reliability of the message found in God’s Word as the ultimate source. Romans 10:17 tells us that, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Charles Wesley proposed the following logical argument: “The Bible must be the invention either of good men or angels, bad men or devils, or of God.
1. It could not be the invention of good men or angels; for they neither would or could make a book, and tell lies all the time they were writing it, saying, “Thus saith the Lord,” when it was their own invention.
2. It could not be the invention of bad men or devils; for they would not make a book which commands all duty, forbids all sin, and condemns their souls to hell to all eternity.
3. Therefore, I draw this conclusion, that the Bible must by given by divine inspiration.” (Robert W, Burtner and Robert Chiles, A Compend of Wesley’s Theology, Abingdon Press. 1954. p. 20)
